Award Description

To support a student enrolled in an undergraduate program at a recognized School of Nursing who has demonstrated commitment to education and advocacy that supports equity in health care for recipients and/or providers who identify as 2S/LGBTQIA+ migrants.  Preference will be given to applicants who identify as 2S/LGBTQIA+ migrants.

Origin

The Dr. Roya Haghiri-Vijeh Scholarship was established in 2022, partially funded through donations received in celebration of Roya’s completion of her PhD.  The scholarship recognizes the contributions of the people who participated in her research, and the need for further study and work with this community. 

Honoree Background

Dr. Roya Haghiri-Vijeh is an assistant professor at York University and an active member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario’s Rainbow Nursing Interest Group. Roya acknowledges with humility and respect the opportunity to work on the treaty lands and the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. In her PhD dissertation, Roya focused on the experiences of 2S/LGBTQIA+ migrants with nurses and other healthcare professionals in Canada.
