Award Description

The Margaret Avery Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a 3rd year baccalaureate nursing student in a 4 year program.  Applicants must demonstrate high academic standing with outstanding potential and/or contribution to the advancement of clinical practice, education, or research.

Origin

In honour of her mother, Shirley Avery initiated the Margaret Avery Memorial Scholarship shortly after her death.

Honoree Background

Margaret Avery lived most of her life on Hallecks Rd, in Lyn, Ontario.  She attended Brockville Collegiate Institute and graduated from Ottawa Normal School and Kemptville Agricultural College.  Margaret taught public school, but was also a teacher to her children, grandchildren, 4-H club members and Sunday School children.  She was a tireless worker for her church and service clubs, and a regular visitor to hospital patients and residents of St. Lawrence Lodge.
