Sakina has been working as a Registered Nurse in the community, and has also done volunteer work in Pakistan and Peru. She recently completed the Master of Nursing degree at Ryerson University. Sakina consolidated her studies at SickKids International where she made recommendations on the use of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy as a useful framework to develop nursing curricula for Africa. She will use this knowledge to guide her practice in Kenya on a 6 month internship through the College of the Rockies, undertaken within the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy with a contribution from the Canadian International Development Agency.
