Rose Plantus is a Year 3 BScN student at the University of Windsor. She works part time bedside in the emergency department with high acuity cases, completing research about emerging topics related to social equity vital to the community and participating in opportunities to lead and develop peers in clinical and academic settings.
Her current research projects revolve around the development of equitable care for vulnerable populations and increasing student awareness of poverty recognition by integration of service-based learning. She has given back to the community by coordinating collections for Street Angels by integrating support from professional organizations such as the local chapter RNAO.
A recent personal tragedy has provided her inspiration to research and develop a proposal to offer education and support for patients and families regarding diagnoses and quickly evolving traumatic events. She is a pragmatic social justice warrior who reminds her patients “you do not get to choose where you came from, but you get to decide where you go from here.”
