Petrina Barbas, Jennifer Award

Petrina Barbas is a third year nursing student at Ryerson University. She completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences from Western University, where she discovered her passion for the social determinants of health. Recognizing the important role of nurses in advocating for the well-being of communities through public policy change, Petrina is currently serving as a Student Affiliate on the Board of Directors of the Community Health Nurses’ Initiatives Group and has recently formed a new sub-committee to promote increased student involvement. She has also worked on several projects as a Research Assistant, investigating topics in global health nursing and arts-based knowledge translation. Petrina hopes to practice community health nursing and enter into a thesis-based graduate program in the future
