About Maternal Child Nurses’ Interest Group
MCNIG, formerly the Childbirth Nurses’ Interest Group (CNIG), represents nurses interested in promoting optimal health for women, families and infants across the continuum of childbearing from preconception to the postnatal and early infancy periods.
We are hospital and communities based, and work in a wide variety of settings, including public health departments, clinics, labour and delivery, postpartum, special care nursery, prenatal education and nursing education. MCNIG, which currently has over 900 members, plays an active role in RNAO committees and in the development of political statements. Executive and Committee meetings are held by teleconference and in person, and with our annual MCNIG Breakfast Meeting held in conjunction with the RNAO Annual General Meeting. Our informative and educational newsletter is published two times yearly. The MCNIG supports continuing education efforts through RNFOO Bursaries and our Continuing Education Program Support fund.
