Award Description
The Joyce Shack Memorial Bursary will support a student enrolled in a graduate level program whose career goals are focused on nursing administration. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate active involvement and leadership in the community.

The Joyce Shack Memorial Bursary was established through a bequest received from her estate in August 2018.
Honoree background
Joyce Olive Shack passed away on August 16, 2018 at Queen’s Village Nursing Home, London. Joyce retired several years ago after a long career in nursing. Her career included Director of Nursing at several hospitals in the U.S and Ontario. She held a number of significant leadership positions, including President of the College of Nurses of Ontario (1987-1989) and Charter Member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Omicron Chapter. Joyce was named an Honorary Life Member of RNAO in 1990.
Joyce had close ties to her nursing school graduating class members and was a member of several nursing association committees. She was a published author of several books and nursing care manuals. She was an avid golfer and won a number of tournaments. Joyce served on the boards of the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, Goderich, and the Goderich Golf Club. She was an active member of her church choir in Goderich for many years. Joyce was a creative artist who also taught classes in paper tolle. She was a lover of Schnauzer dogs and always had one as her companion. Joyce enjoyed travelling and visited several countries around the world. Joyce was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 10, 1934 and was in her 85th year of life when she passed. She leaves behind her brother Ted and his wife Laurel, as well as several cousins.
