Award Description
Recognizing Lucy’s experience of undertaking her training as a nurse after many years away from formal education, this scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in a PN or BScN program after a significant interval1 away from formal education.
1Expected to be at least 5 years.
Origin
The Lucy Glass Memorial Scholarship was established by her children in 2018, in recognition of her love of nursing and her conviction that “once a nurse, always a nurse“.
Honoree Background
Lucy Rachel Glass completed her nursing training at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec – a graduate of the hospital’s first nursing class. Following her formal training, she worked in a number of hospitals in Ontario and the United States until she had her first child. She returned to nursing years (and several children) later, after her husband passed away. A refresher course in nursing led Lucy to renew her nursing career in a number of medical practices and as a school nurse for more than 10 years.
